Rosemary grew up in Santa Barbara, California. She completed her undergraduate, masters, and PhD in education at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Rosemary was a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and had a Counseling Service in Deer Lodge. She was a teacher and counselor at Powell County High School, Jr. High, and Elementary Schools for more than 25 years. It was a job she loved, as one of her great passions in life was working with kids. Rosemary saw the best in people and was always ready to help anyone who needed it. She had boundless energy, whether it was backpacking, traveling, teaching in Japan and Montana or working on the family's cattle ranch in Deer Lodge.
Rosemary is survived by her son Carey of Deer Lodge, sister Kathleen Heil of Munich, Germany, brothers Paul (Mary) Hertel of Arroyo Grande, California, Daniel (Janis) Hertel, of Bozeman, Montana, Peter (Susi) Hertel, of Irvine, California. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Theresa Hertel of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California, and her aunt Patricia Schmechel of Butte, Montana, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Olsen, sons Chad and Sean, mother D. Patricia (Schmechel) Hertel, father Donald C. Hertel, stepfather David Royer and brother, Joseph.
